Passport impounding notice

Dear Sir/Madam,
I have just received a notice about impounding my passport and asked to furnish why it should not be impounded.
the actual reason being, i had visited the police station 2 times for giving my proof of residence. they said they would get in touch with me and openly asked for bribe on both occasions.
later after 3 months they called me and asked me to come to the police station. since i was out of town, i could not go. on returning i found that they sent this notice. please help, what is my course of action?

Who has given U the notice for impounding your Passport? A Passport is issued only after all verifications, including address, except in the case of TATKAL. U R not supposed to visit the PS, Rather,the police should come to U for the verifications. Moreover, it is usually the DIB & not the PS who do the verifications.

Is there any case pending against you?
Which authority has given you letter for impounding of passport. Only MHA can do so and there would be a list of reasons as to why it is being impounded.

If any criminal case is pending against you and you have concealed this fact at the time of renewal of your passport,the Passport Officer is fully authorized to impound your passport after notice as per law.
Only Passport Officer has such power and law is well settled over this issue.

Did the police quote any reason in the notice for their intention to impound your passport? If so, what is that reason?
