Driving Licence

(Querist) 25 July 2009 This query is : Resolved
I am a NRE, my family settled in west bengal. Yearly twice I am coming to India. I have gulf country valid driving licence, whether I can drive cars at west bengal during my vacation. I am coming on vacation for 15 days to one month duration. If I will apply for a licence then it will take around three months.
Please guide me.

If you have international driving licence, you can drive in India.

Otherwise, you can apply for Learners licence (which is having validity of 1 month and will be issued on the same day, the negative aspect is you will have to put "L" board in the vehicle which you drive!) to tackle the issue.

in Punjab the learners license is valid for 6 months.

better u contact some local lawyer who has work confined to administrative side.

in WB the administrative structure is a bit different, so contact some lawyer, he will make the things quicker for u, as often done in govt. offices in India.

Better you go for a Learner licence this time and get valid licence next time... you can have a fear free drive..
