sir ,
a person clains to hv given me certain amount of money.but the fact is he hasnt given me any cash and against the cheque amount i have given him cash in return..ie. the deal is closed.now he and his wife is constantly harassing and defaming us everywhere that i am not givin their money back.
there is no documentary evidence with him to prove his claim.On the other hand i have all relevant documents to show that the transaction is closed
1.what can i do if he constantly calls and harass me again & again or defames me?
2.is it not a means to illegally extort money by defaming a reputed person?

If it crosses limit, send them a legal notice telling them that you can go to court and file a case for defamation against them
Till then, dont worry and be cool. They will shout but who listens and how long.

Mr. Annu,
You have not mentioned what type of documents considered to be relevant to show that the transaction is closed. On the other hand, you say that there is no documentary evidence with him to prove his claim, while you have stated that you have given cash in lieu of cheque received by you. The cheque if credited in your account is the most relevant document as a proof of his transaction. On the other hand, if you don't have any receipt for cash payment, how would you be able to prove the payment made to him to close the transaction.
So, please state what type of relevant documents you have to prove the transdaction closed. In the absence of mention about the nature of proof, any advice may not probably prove to be useful to you.
But, if you don't want to make a mention and feel that you have all the relevant documents, you may call the police by ringing 100, if they enter in to your premises. But, proof of relevance of documents, like receipt for payment granted by him, would be your liability.

i have a signed letterhead of this person(though blank).
secondly why that person himself is not filing a complaint?

exact dates i dont have rite now but they were given to me in nov 2012,dec 2012, jan 2013 and feb 2013.

About your supplementary query, "why that person himself is not filing a complaint," what I can guess is that he wants you to complain to the police and show signed blank document or even filled up by you to the police. so that he may get you caught by police in cheating and fraud case by misuse of his blank signed document.
