Difference

(Querist) 23 November 2009 This query is : Resolved
Hi, What is the difference between Lawyer and Advocate or both words have the same meaning?
A V Vishal (Expert) 23 November 2009
Basically a lawyer and advocate are both law graduates but for the purpose of practise a lawyer needs to be registered as an advocate with the Bar Council under the rules of BCI and the Advocates Act. An ADVOCATE is a LAWYER, but every LAWYER is not an ADVOCATE.
Raj Kumar Makkad (Expert) 23 November 2009
A lawyer cannot be an advocate but all advocates are lawyers.
