Sir,
I am an advocate and practicing in Lucknow since last six months.My parents has arranged my marriage with an average family's girl in last Jun'12 who is teaching in a private school at Sitapur. On 24th of Oct'2012 my engagement was done with that girl.Everything was running good and my tilak & m'age date and all other things were fixed with the full consent of girl's parents on coming 3rd & 6th Feb 2013 respectively.But few days before the attitude of girl as well as her family got changed and they said to my father that they want some time for marriage whether my papa said that everything is fixed with ur consent the dates ,the bookings of guest houses where major share of money was paid by my father due to their bad financial condition, my Papa also told that our relatives and society also knew about the ceremony, they asked to girl's parents what is the reason tell me if there is any finance problem,then we'll manage as now this is our family matter but still girl side was so rude and they broke the relation ultimately without telling any genuine reason so in that case my parents are bearing major financial loss as well as defamation in the society, my family is suffering from total mental harrassment due to this act of girl-side,pls suggest me what kind of action we can take against them...Pls reply ASAP Sir,I am very upset and not concentrating on my daily work....

Hindu marriage is not a contract so one cannot insist for the marriage with the same girl, however, you can claim your entire financial losses in terms of money by first serving a legal notice and then filing a suit for recovery before proper court of law.

wht is amount of loss incurred . send a polite letter to girl parents claiming the amount of loss incurred . give detailed break up of exepenses incuured . if no reply received send a legal notice

On breaking up of betrothal civil suit for compensation lies on the ground of loss of money and social repute.
