My name in the rationing card is written as 'mohti'. However my name being 'mohit' I want to get the name changed. How do I do it? After making the affidavit, who do I submit it to?

Contact the ration card issuing office, find out the procedure from them and proceed.

I asked at rationing the office and they asked me to get a letter from the government gazette printing press. Now that its gone online, I went to their site www.dgps.maharashtra.gov.in. However, it has procedures for change of name and not rectification of name in the rationing card.

For changing the name or rectifying the same in ration card, you dont need a gazette publication, they can with the help of the documentary evidences amend the name and record the correct spelling, take the help of a local lawyer and get the issue solved.

The name as shown in the ration card in the mistake. You may make an application, duly supported by other documents, to correct the mistake and follow it through RTI. They are required to correct the mistake. Do not place too much reliance on casual discussion with the office employees - this may quite often turn out to be a mere distraction.
