Dear Expert,
I intend to renovate, repair & paint my self contained flat by a contractor. The materials required for the work will be provided by me. The contractor will be providing the service of labour on contract, the entire work is estimated to be completed by 20 days. Yesterday, one of my neighbours, insisted that I should sign an agreement / MOU before execution of the repair & paint work. He had a bad experience with a labour contractor due to some dispute over reimbursement of payment & the contractor left the work halfway. I want to know what agreement / MOU should I insist on signing with the contractor. Do I need it on Rs.10 non- judicial stamp paper. Could you please refer me some web links, where I could get such agreement templates.

You need to do Surety & Indemnity bond with the contractor to safe guard your interest.
Will u appreciate this answer by giving like on my LCI Profile?

While stamp fee for agreement differs from state to state, you may contact some local lawyer of document writer. For templates, you may try to search through google search engine.
In this regard, your neighbour may also be of some more help, who advised you to enter in to an agreement/ MOU.

It is always good habit to enter into a written agreement / MOU in such matters.
Search internet if you can find ingredients / outlines / basics of such agreement or get it drafted through your lawyer.
Stamp duty differ from state to state, get it confirmed locally.

Agree, if your neighbor is having copy of agreement, can proceed on the basis of that agreement to draft your own agreement to save professional charges.
It is always better to get professional services.

In order to avoid disputes u may reduce the terms agreed upon in to writing and get it signed by the contractor. or alternatively u may ask the contractor to give to u in writing the charges at which he is willing to execute the work and the stages of payment and the mode of calculating the work done by him. This would serve the purpose. The above need not be stamped.
