My flats

This query is : Resolved
I have one flat in my name and the adjacent flat in my wife's name which I bought in 1972 and 1988 resp.
We have interconnected the flats with permission from the authorities but pay outgoings/taxes etc separately.
Our children grew up with us in these flats till the girls got married & moved on. our youngest son lived with us. He got married and his wife shifted in too. Now they have 2 children both in school.
To help our youngest son we allowed him to convert one bedroom into a Studio (he is a professional in design). But now after 9 years he does not want to shift out his studio as it is most convenient.
Daughter in law has given up her job and joined the son in the business.
Things have gone very bad and lately I had to tell him he had to move out within 6 months and the studio ASAP. I have been toying with the idea of selling both flats and moving into smaller digs to suit my budget.
I got a shock when to this my wife of 45 years turned round & said she would not let me sell the flats And the son said that I can do what I want but he will not move out nor will he shift his office.
Am I to remain Shahjehan in one room while my son takes over everything.
I am prepared to disown him because of his attitude.
Can your experts pls advise me what to do- I am 70 years old

Mr. Phipson,
I don't know to which extent your story is true. But, if it is true, I am of the strong opinion, if every one of your kith & kin have revolted against you and don't behave like yours own, why you should suffer just by posing yourself to be theirs own.
When no one respects you, the best way is to get divorce from your wife instead of becoming a captivated Shahjehan and start living in the portion of the house registered in your name and close the interconnected part of the house. Keep on becoming the king of your own empire and let the mother, son, daughter-in-law and their children dumped in the other part of the house.
The other alternative is that you sell your own registered part of the house, nobody can prohibit you from selling your own house. Of course, you cannot sell the part of the house registered in the name of your wife without her consent.
Third alternative is, mortgage your house and go for a separate rented house. When your family members will get tortured by the mortgager directly or indirectly through his own tenant they will come to terms with you. Or else, when your wife gets kicked out by her own son due to shortage of space, she would get the lesson by knowing the importance of age related need of cooperation with her spouse, would come to terms with you.

If your wife is not hostile towards you then both of you can shunt them out.
You can also file for maintenance from them.
If they do not respect the aged parent then they get what they deserve.

Try to have amicable solution, save the family. Take help of near relatives.
If not possible move as advised by the experts.
