Is there a way to find out if someone has a criminal case against them without the help of the police? That is, can it be checked online using aadhaar number or any other pin number?

The aadhar number will not be of any use to find out the pendency of any criminal case against any individual.
To find out if a criminal case is pending against an individual without police assistance, the most reliable way is to access the online court records through the National Judicial Data Grid (NJDG) on the eCourts website, where you can search by the individual's name to see if any active cases are listed against them; you may need to provide details like the state and district to narrow down the search.

You also have the option of verifying case status in the e-court. But the process could be laborious unless you are sure of the Court complex where such matter could be pending.
