Rejoining of same govt department and same post

I am presently working in a govt department . I was selected on the basis of 2015 exam and before I joined I also cleared 2016 exam and applied for same department. Can I now resign from my present post to join the same department with same designation but different posting area??

You need not resign.Since the new post is also in the same dept., the officials will absorb you citing the selection for the post and make entries in your service records.
