Rti application by a lawyer

(Querist) 13 May 2012 This query is : Resolved
Can a lawyer submit an RTI apllication and ask for information on behalf of his client under RTI Act. Some one saying that it will be treat as third party case. Is it right? Can the authorisation letter or affidavit by client solve the problem.

Sudhir Kumar, Advocate (Expert) 13 May 2012
For seeking information under RTI one has to be indian citizen. His profession and relevance to case has nothing to do. Advocate need not file application on behalf of cleint and also no authorisation is necessary. Let the clernt make application himself or the advocate make applicatin himself.

There is no provision under RTI Act for applying through advocate.
