There are so many things about our country that we should be PROUD TO BE AN INDIAN...  :)

Very true, I agree we should be proud but pride should not lead us close our eyes to reality and truth.

"People who shut their eyes to reality simply invite their own destruction." - James Baldwin

"Those who cannot learn from history are doomed to repeat it." George Santayana

Very good post nothing against it, but we should also have an objective look at the following facts:

"India is the world's largest, oldest, continuous civilization" I disagree because China is the largest, oldest, continuous civilization, we come next.

What is now China was inhabited by Homo erectus more than a million years ago. Recent study shows that the stone tools found at Xiaochangliang site are magnetostratigraphically dated to 1.36 million years ago.The archaeological site of Xihoudu in Shanxi Province is the earliest recorded use of fire by Homo erectus, which is dated 1.27 million years ago. The excavations at Yuanmou and later Lantian show early habitation. Perhaps the most famous specimen of Homo erectus found in China is the so-called Peking Man discovered in 1923-27. Three pottery pieces were unearthed at Liyuzui Cave in Liuzhou, Guangxi Province dated 16,500 and 19,000 BC.

Isolated remains of Homo erectus in Hathnora in the Narmada Valley in central India indicate that India might have been inhabited since at least the Middle Pleistocene era, somewhere between 500,000 and 200,000 years ago. Recent finds in Tamil Nadu (at c. 75,000 years ago, before and after the explosion of the Toba volcano) indicate the presence of the first anatomically modern humans in the area.

"India never invaded any country in her last 10000 years of history." It is a very debatable subject than a matter of a fact.because of the following:

1) If one reads various ancient texts, the concept of India as a single country never existed except under the forcible colonial, territorial, imperialistic ambitions of the rulers. Example during the rule of Chandragupta Maurya, Ashoka, Aurangzeb and British. If we exclude these periods, Indian sub continent consisted of various independent countries just like we have countries in Europe today. Their cultures and languages were very different and alien to each other.

2) Mauryan Empire also included Afghanistan, parts of Iran, Nepal, Sri Lanka and Burma. Under no stretch of imagination it can be construed that such large empire was possible without any invasion. It is a totally a different matter why such rulers like Chandra Gupta did not choose to carry on their invasions further due practical constraints or otherwise. Even Ashoka conducted a very large scale invasion on a independent country Kalinga(present day Orissa) leading to death and destruction of lakhs of people in order to take away its independence and forcibly impose his colonial rule. The scene of death and destruction was of such horror and magnitude, Ashoka out guilt and penance converted himself to Buddhism.

3) It is a totaly a different matter and fact that during around last 1000 years, the people of Indian sub continent failed to defend themselves from outside invasions into the Indian sub continent. Defense is nothing but Strategic Offense. And any country in the world who has not been able to do strategic offense was defeated and ruled by those who had the capability to do strategic offence in their own interests. It is as simple as that. No grand philosophy but a practical fact.

So if someone contends that India never invaded any country it is incorrect both factually and morally. It is also more of a matter to be ashamed of, rather than to be proud of. The correct way of saying would be, people of Indian sub continent failed to do Strategic Offense and outsiders were sucesful in their Stratagic Offense. I have also been recieving such emails over past few years boasting that India never invaded etc. etc. It is totally wrong perception. I would request all to apraise such senders about the facts.
