Bar raised: Exam a success
Despite opposition and court cases against it, the first-ever All India Bar Exam (AIBE) was successfully conducted on Sunday across 45 examination centres. Except for three centres in Chennai, which saw lawyers staging protests, the Bar Council of India announced successful conduct of the first AIBE throughout the country.
Bar Council of India chairman Gopal Subramanium said, “The exam, which was of international standard, saw 98 per cent turnout. It went off extremely well, except for some trouble in Chennai, where it will now be held on March 27.”
Subramanium, who decided to oversee the the exam, went to each and every centre in the Capital. “I met students and was stunned to see the response. It is the first step towards reform and a dream come true for me,” he said.
Earlier, the exam was scheduled to be held on December 5, 2010.
