Bought patil watan inami land without re-grant

My grandfather purchased patil watan inami land in 1968, he had registered sale deed with seller. At that time my grandfather was not aware that re-grant is required for inami land sale post 1-2-1963.

Later request to change names in 7-12 documents (from seller to him as buyer) was rejected by government office stating that land was not regranted, due to this name of seller is still on 7-12 documents.

We have been using this land since 1968 (for farming purpose). Now descendants of sellers have forcefully taken possession of this land stating reason that their anscestors name is present in 7-12. We have only sale deed of said land. What are my options to take possession of this land and change ownership names in 7-12 documents?
