Now you may comment reason, logic behind filing a civil maint. becuase I covered the criminal maintenence part via my above file post and "intent" "reasoning" behind civil and criminal maintenance are totally different but are based on overlapping same societal causes but procedure wise slotted in a particular Code or Act that is all is what I feel is where the difference lies.

I stand open for further correction of this post reply.

Now I have no doubt that, maintenance is the centre point of all most all matrimonial disputes. Though the thread question is, WHAT IS THE REASON, LOGIC, BEHIND THE MAINTENANCE POLICY?

 But my intention was to ask ‘why maintenance to an able bodied spouse?’  The maintenance of an able bodied spouse is in question.

The acts in this regard, are available in

(1) H.A.M.A. (2) H.M.A. (3) S.M.A. (4) C.P.C. (5) Acts on Mohamed an and Christian marriages.

Among these acts the first and foremost is, THE HINDU ADOPTIONS AND MAINTENANCE ACT, 1956. ACT NO. 78 OF 1956. The concerned sections are 18 to 28. Headings are as follows:-
