Credit Card dispute as the card holder is deceased

My father-in-law who was an SBI credit card holder passed away in 2008.According to the bank he had a due of Rs 50, 000 at that time. I send the bank authorities his death certificate, but they insisted that I should pay them the amount. But I ignored their reminders. Now they filed  a pre-litigation petition in Legal service authority. What should I do?
