Karunanidhi says Kanimozhi in bad shape
Back from Delhi after meeting his daughter Kanimozhi in Tihar jail, a visibly disturbed DMK chief M Karunanidhi on Wednesday said she has been jailed under "inhumane conditions'' and was in poor health.
Speaking to reporters at his CIT Colony residence here soon after his arrival from the national capital, Karunanidhi, when asked about his meeting with his daughter, said: ``Kanimozhi and Sharad Kumar have been jailed under inhumane conditions. They are unable to handle the heat.''
Karunanidhi said both Kanimozhi and the Kalaignar TV managing director were in a bad shape. ``Due to the oppressive Delhi heat, they have developed boils all over the body,'' the DMK chief said, accusing the CBI of acting on media reports against Kanimozhi and trying to prove all false allegations. He said the DMK would face the challenge posed by the CBI legally.
On the DMK-Congress relations, Karunanidhi first said it was for the media to speculate. When pressed further, the DMK patriarch said the relations were fine and Union aviation minister Vayalar Ravi met him as a close friend during his stay in New Delhi. ``No other Congress leader met me,'' he said.
To a question, he hinted that his party was not averse to the Prime Minister being brought under the purview of the Lokpal Bill. He recalled his government had introduced an anti-corruption law in the 1970s which brought the chief minister too under its purview.
On the party's support to Anna Hazare, Karunanidhi said: ``The DMK is ready to support any good cause but not to any individual's personal benefit.'' Karunanidhi said he was unaware of the probe commission being set up by the government to go into the construction of the new secretariat. He said as for as the DMK was concerned, there was no irregularity in the construction of the new secretariat.
