Iqbal Singh v/s Veeran Narang, Criminal Appeal No. 2225 of 2011
Hon'ble SC has held that if a person gives a false statement before Rent Controller (appointed under East Punjab Urban Rent Restriction Act, 1949) then proceedings under S. 340 Cr.P.C are not maintainable against such person as the Hon'ble SC finds Rent Controller is not a court and discharges only quasi judicial functions. However, private complaint is maintainable.
