Freelance writer - income tax liability calculation

Hi,

I am a freelance writer earning my livelihood from contracts.

This is the first time I would be calculating my tax and paying it online.

I needed to know:

1. What exemptions am I entitled to and how can I incorporate these in my calculations i.e. If I'm staying on rent, can I claim the rent charges, society maintenance charges, electricity bills, internet and phone charges also?

2. What challan form do I fill for being self-employed - I was employed in a job from April to June and have been a freelancer from September onwards.

3. What should be the type of payment I select on the Efiling page i.e. 300-Self Assessment Tax, 102-Surtax, 100-Advance Tax etc.?

4. Will I only use one of these always or a combination of these?

5. From the next financial year, how would you advise me to keep a track of my tax liability - on a monthly basis?

6. Would it be possible for you to guide me through my questions this first time?

Thanx,

Nitin

Nitin ,

Read your queries , yes there are some expense aspects which needs

to be looked into plus the deductions etc . You see for Self Employed
