Can police them self dismiss the fir filed by them?

If Police file FIR with IPC420 and after filing , with some Medical Examinations they found that it is a false complaint.

Now can the Police dismiss the case saying a false complaint or it has to be submitted in court?

no police cannot quash the fir , It is highcourts power to quash the fir .

if the FIR is filed then Court has the power to dismiss the case based on the inquiry report produced in court by Police.
