Karnataka - land holding limit

Dear Experts,

1. What is the Ceiling Limit of holding Agricultural Land by (i) an Individual (ii) Real Estate Company or Company ?

2. What is the Ceiling Limit of holding Non-Agricultural Land (Converted Land) by (i) an Individual (ii) Real Estate Company or Company ?

3. Can A Company hold Agricultural Land in Karnataka ?

Please kindly suggest with relevant provisions of Applicable Acts.

Thanks in Advance.

Dear Bijay Shrestha,

Any Individual i.e. living or non-living person can hold only one unit of minimum holding of Agricultural land. However, basing on the soil nature (Wet/Dry/Watershed) of Agricultural land, State Governments have prescribed the maximum extent of land for each individual. As far as my knowledge in Karnataka State, Companies are not entitled to purchase the agricultural land, however there is some exemptions for certains land, where are commercial crops are produced for industrial purpose, which are purchased in the name of such Company directly.

There is no specific limit quatum of non-agricultural land holding. If Karnataka Government repealed the Urban Land Ceiling Act.
