Judgment in rem means the judgment which is applicable to all the public/society not only the parties

In case of death penalty the supreme court had laid down principle that death penalty can be given in only the rarest of rare case. This is the example of Judgment in rem in criminal case

Judgment in rem means a judgment pronounce on the status of some particular subject or property or things as opposed to one pronounce on person: like the judgment in admirality, probate etc.
