Court grants bail to accused in Phoolan Devi murder case
New Delhi: A Delhi court on Thursday granted bail to an undertrial accused of helping prime suspect Sher Singh Rana in murdering bandit-turned-politician Phoolan Devi. “I order the release of accused Praveen Mittal on bail on furnishing of personal and surety bond of Rs.50,000 each,” Additional Sessions Judge Brijesh Kumar Garg of a fast track court here said. Mittal, a Roorkee-based advocate who was in jail since his arrest in 2002, had allegedly advised key accused Rana on fabricating evidence about his presence in Uttarakhand on the day of the murder of Phoolan Devi in the Capital. While giving relief to Mittal, the court considered the grant of bail to another accused Amit Rathi, an alleged arms dealer, by Delhi High Court.
