Imprisonments are of two descripttions (1) Rigorous, that is, with hard labour; and (2) Simple.
It means that the judge may impose any of the above type as per his descretion for the said period.

yes you are right that in every sections this line has been made viz. either of descripttion . it litterly means there are two penal provisions in every section in which one is minimum and second one is maximum and it is descrition of the presiding officer of the court which of these penalities he imposed on the criminal .
