As per Hindu Law a
widowed daughter-in-law is entitled to get maintenance from her father-in-law under S. 19 of the Hindu Adoption and Maintenance Act, 1956 provided she is not working further provided she has not been given compasionate ground appointment in job of her deceased husband.

Mr.Mehra,

Father in law's obligation to maintain DIL u/s 19 HAMA is a very remote obligation and is confined to cases where husband is not there, there is some coparcenory property out of which husband did not get a share, and FIL has sufficient means to maintain her out of proceeds of such property and furthermore the wife is not in a position to maintain herself otherwise.
