I need help regarding finding lost savings account of my deceased father. He retired from an MNC in year 2001 n transferred all his savings from bank of Maharashtra to some account in different city where we live now.
Using RTI act I enquired for account statement of year 2001 for his savings account which is "still active". Bank branch wrote to me that they got computerized in year 2002 and have deleted all records before that since they were older than 10 years so they can't give me any information !
It's so surprising ! Does that mean bank deletes entire account information of all active account holders in entire Maharashtra just because they are more than 10 years old? If so then in case of any criminal probe of fraud that happened say 12 years back , government will find no records of that account??
Don't they have a datacenter where they saved old information ?
