Neighbor wants to cut a healthy coconut + jackfruit tree

A neighbour has complained to the Forest Department re  cutting down of 2 healthy tree's which are leaning towards his house; the forest department has issue a letter stating "the said tree is 6 mtrs away from the applicants house. the said tree is bent  towards the applicants house, thereby  posing  danger to human  life and  property ". Following which the village panchayat (Goa) has issued an order cum notice  on 7 11/2015  directing us to cut the coconut tree within  15 days from the receipt of this notice or to show cause as to why  the said order should not  be enforced.

Could you please advice how to proceed on this matter

1) to stop the cutting of these perfectly healthy tree's or

2) compensation for cutting of these 2 tree's as both are fruit bearing

I do not want to go into a long legal procedure/court case ie if it can be avoided.

Thank you

Neighbour must have surely discussed his problem with you before seeking help from authorities. Why did you not settle it amicably? There are many ways to keep the tree without cutting yet ending the nuisance.
