well normally from the first owner to last owner, as per series of transfer done.
better to consult advocate and get title certificate.

Dear Ramesh,
We need to check the sale transaction documents at least for a period of last 20 years along with Gram Panchayat & Municipal Records and Latest Encumbrance Certificate from Registrar Office.
