A legal notice is a formal communication indicating the opposite party be it a person or an entity that you are preparing to litigate a lawsuit against him in case if the demand is not fulfilled. It is a step taken before filing a suit and it is meant to warn the other party that a legal action may be initiated against him.

Looking at your query, I've defined the process that you need to comply with being a receiver of a legal notice. Take a look at it in order to get a clarified picture.

If a person seems to receive a notice (legal notice), it's crucial that the receiver contacts the sender of the notice with a motive to resolve the matter then and there only. According to law it is compulsory that any person who has received a legal notice responds to the same in a legal as well as professional manner.

However, if an individual fails to comply with the same, and hasn't replied to the notice, then there's a possibility that the opposing party would use this failure as an advantage while entering into the litigation.
This is because later while drafting the petition they will blame the person for non compliance with the requirements of the notice, due to which the matter has been filed.

However, if the facts mentioned in a legal notice are false as per your knowledge, then the reviewer must challenge the notice by consulting an appropriate lawyer. The appointed lawyer then would send the a responsive notice through post or courier (any one).

It is advised that when a notice is received it's important to see whether the claims made in the notice are bound by any time limit or not. If there's a prescribed time provided, then the responsive notice should be sent within the prescribed time limit itself.

Hope it clears your doubts.
