Property share for daughters

Dear sir,

My mother is the only daughter for her parents and she has got three brothers. My grand father has promised my mother a share in a property which he had purchased after their death. Now both my Grand parents are no more and now my Uncle say that my mother is not eligible for any share in the property as they have given every thing during my mothers marriage. They also say that those who are married only after 1980 is eligible for a share. Which year was the rule brought that daughter are also eligible for a share. We are from Tamil nadu. I would be much obliged if you can give me a detailed reply.

If your grandparents have died after 2005, then you mother is entitled for the grant of 1/5 share in the property means equal share of your uncles. and if your grand parents have died prior to that then your mother is entitled for the grant of only 1/16 share.

Dear Makkad sir,

My grand parents both have passed away before 2005, but my mother is fighting for what she has been promised by my Grandfather during her marriage but there is no evidence for it. But can you please give me a little detail on 1/16 share and what is the connection between my Grandparents death before 2005. Is there any law amended in 2005 regarding this. Does this fit for Christian family also?
