A Special Power of Attorney need not be registered always.... however, when the prinicipal authorizes the agent to be present for registration, a document executed by the principal has to be compulsorily be registered. if this being not your case then it is sufficient to notarised the POA

go through sec.17 and sec.18 of registration act(j and k)which deals with the registeration of documents and it is specifically mentioned in these sections which document is required to be compulsorily registered and which is optional. i think it 'll serve ur purpose
