Special marriage act/ hindu marriage act

Respected Lawyers,

I got married in 1985 under the Special Marriage Act.

There is the Hindu Marriage Act.

Where could i learn of the rules of both these Acts and know the differences.

Does law for divorce differ if married under Special Marriage Act from law for divorce under Hindu Marriage?

Thank you

Orchid

You married as per special marriage act. If both are Hindus, they can follow Hindu Marriages Act.  So you  follow the rules as per the Special Marriage act only. Under sec. 28 of the Act, which primarily deals with the provisions relating to obtaining a divorce by mutual consent in respect of a marriage solemnized and/or registered under the Act, a petition for divorce by mutual consent may be presented to the District Court.
