Traffic sergeant threatening to detain bike for not having NOC

Hi ,

Traffic sergeant in Chennai, Tamilnadu stopped me after seeing my Karnataka (KA) registerd bike and asked for all documents - i produced  copy of 1.Driving licence,  2.Bike insurance , 3.Road tax(Karnataka) ,4.RC book  , 5.Bill from packers and movers (For taking of my bike from karnataka to tamilnadu -2 months old ).
( All documents are valid and in my name )
After seeing all the documents they demanded for Rs.1000 which they later changed to Rs.2500 for not having an NOC , even after i told them that my stay is not permanent they din accept and thretend me that they ll take my bike and ll make cases so that i ll never get my bike back . Finally they asked me how much i ll give .But they left me when they got to know i am not going to  bribe them in any way .( the same situation happend to me  twice  in 2 different places )

I am in chennai for my work and my stay depends on my work extention ( my native is tamilnadu ).

Please let me know whether the documents i have is enough ? what are the nessary documents i should have to avoid such situations ?

Is it possible for a traffic person to file cases on me or my bike to detain it  .

which type pf NOC they were asking.

They din mention any particular type of NOC ( i guess NOC for bike transfer ). One cop instead asked HR letter for my temporary stay in Chennai .

Itis beyond traffic police jurisdiction to ask for letter of HR for temporary stay.

You mee the SP and ask how many Army Officers they have similarly harassed who bring vehcile to place of posting and their stay is limited.

Sir , i dont want to be rude with any one - It would be  helpful if u tell whether the document i have is enough or  do i need to have any other documents more ?

There are two aspect in this matter (1) you have to make an entry of your vehicle if you feel that your vehicle will ply in the jurisdiction of the particular DTO for more than 6 months. (2) If you are taking your vehicle to a particular state permanently the you have to obtain a NOC from the DTO of the area where your vehicle is originally registered, thereafter you apply for registration of the vehicle in the jurisdiction of the new DTO. Other than this the police have no business to ask for any fine because the motor vehicle act says that any registration made in any part of india is valid throughout the who country. Inspite of that the police is asking for the fine pay them the fine and get a receipt for the amount and file a complaint before the authority concerned.
