Use of fake notes to be treated as terror act

Union home ministry proposes to include fake Indian currency notes (FICN) in the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act

Alarmed by the rising use of fake currencies, the Union home ministry has decided to treat it as an act of terrorism.

Accordingly, it proposes to include FICN in the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, or UAPA, which entails more stringent provisions. Not only will it attract more punitive action, bail will also be more difficult to obtain.

Only terrorist organizations and people associated with them are currently covered under the Act.

Fake currency is among the “biggest threats” facing the country, said R.K. Singh, Union home secretary. That’s why “we are planning to include this in UAPA”.

Singh added: “FICN circulation is not done by local gangsters. The quality of (fake notes) suggest that state actors are behind it. These state actors are getting it executed through non-state actors.”

The quality of (fake notes) suggest that state actors are behind it.

So if some innocent person gets these "high quality" fake notes, he is screwed up, lands in jail and gets labelled as "terrorist" doing "terrorism".

Another golden power and oppurtunity in hands of police to extort higher bribes.

There are rumours that "advisors" to MHA are some retired and serving police officers. So one can well understand what kind of draconion ideas and laws that can flow out of the offices of MHA to serve the interests of police only.

Moreover since when does GOI need a reason for anything? GOI can do whatever it want on its whims and fancies because the majority of people in India don't care about their rights, freedoms and liberties. The rights, freedoms and liberties of more than 99.99% of the people are dependend on actions of less than 0.01% of social misfits and delinquents. What a wonderfull situation!

Fake currecy is not some unique problem of this country, it is problem of every country. US dollar is said to be the most printed fake currency. Are "coercive" methods not needed for the following:

1) to stop the much bigger menace of corruption, injustice, lack of transparency and political rot.

2) to punish those enjoying kickbacks, bribes and siphoning billions of rupees to swiss banks etc.

3) to punish those responsible for conducting of genocides of thousands of people in broad daylight.

4) to punish those who order RBI to print more and more worthless paper currency for deficit financing and producing many times bigger inflationary results than by fake currency. It is being reported that in last 4 months indian rupee depriciated by 16%. Is it due to FICN?

Rather like the bombshell of FDI in retail, FICN seems to be another diversionary tactics. Maybe a tool to deal with political opponents. "Foreign hand", "external threat" etc. are well known tactics of tyrants around the world to accumulate more power by fooling the people.
