@Harpreet. Yes, man is supposed to maintain wife. It's mandated legally. Even if she does not accompany him, even if she commits adultery, even if they get divorced, even if … in all cases man has to maintain wife. There's a law that states so but there's no law to tell what wife has to do.
"Man n wife are equals" is a cruel and sarcastic joke. Please read IPC 498A, IPC 497, DVA, 125 CrPC and whole other that our legal experts can tell you. Law has given a stone to a mad person in the form of these sections.
And yes, pity on men who have to undergo and who underwent all this. It's not just my thinking, it's reality of today.
I hate women? No ma'am. I don't hate my mom, my sis, my niece, my cousins. I have complaints against "wife". Why? Except wife all the others have performed and I am seeing them perform their role good.
