1.  Usually it is 15 days .OR. at the discretion of the Court. Many times mutual consent is taken from Lawyers of both parties to fix the time period.

A written statement must be filed within 30 days of the defendant receiving the summons, according to Order VIII, Rule 1 CPC. It is important to remember that the statute of limitations does not begin on the day of the summons' issuance, but rather on the date of the summons' receipt. Furthermore, the court has the authority to extend this term at its discretion and for reasons that must be provided in writing. The time cannot, however, be prolonged beyond 90 days. However, in commercial disputes, this rule does not apply, and many amendments have been made in this regard. In the case of a business dispute, the time of 30 days might be extended by the courts for a maximum of 120 days instead of the 90 days necessary in ordinary civil disputes, according to the proviso annexed to Rule 1.
