Itr refund claim by legal heirs of deceased assessee

  1. Is there a provision to register nominee for Income tax refunds of IT department for ITRs filed by an individual, when the aseessee is deceased before assessment; and the linked bank accounts were closed before assessment.

2. in such a case, when one of the multiple legal heirs, prefers claim of refund, whether IT dept  will refund only share of the claimant legal heir or the entire refund amount?

In Case of refund of deceased assessee-

So far as encashing the refund cheque is concerned, this can be done in any bank account where the deceased holder was a joint account holder with any other person. If there is no such joint account, the nominee appointed by the deceased assessee can operate the account.

This service allows you to: Add a bank account and pre-validate it. Remove a closed or deactivated bank account. Nominate a validated bank account to receive Income Tax refund. Remove a bank account from nomination so as not to receive tax refund in that account.

The amount of refund shall be credited by ITO in the account of (deceased) assessee, as mentioned therein the ITR.
