Hi,

The judges of Supreme Court of India are appointed by the President on the advice of the Prime Minister and in consultation with the Chief Justice of India (CJI) under Article 124(2) of the Constitution of India (Constitution).

Judges of a High Court (HC)are also appointed by the President on the advice of CJI, the Governor of the state and the Chief Justice of the designated HC under Article 217 of the consitution.  Transfer of HC judges is dealt withunder Article 222 of theconstitution. Only the President has the power to transfer judges from one HC to another after due consultation with the CJI.

The appointment of the judges of District Court is either done through the HC or appointment through State Public Service Examination under Article 233 of the Constitution.

Best regards,
Megha
