Marriage certificate

Hi,

My parents are Goans, they were married in Bombay in a Church. They did not register their marriage in court as it was not compulsory at that point of time (about 50 years back). Will the Church marriage certificate hold good for any legal purpose. If not, what is the procedure of converting the Church Certificate into a legal document. Please note that I require this to be done in Goa,

Thanks and Regards
