Can an advocate join cs firm

I am an independent advocate.  I want to join as legal manager in any MNC. And I intend to concentrate on trademark laws.  I have got an opportunity to join company secretary office which is providing  trademark filing and prosecution.  Please give your valuable advice.

will u pls tell us whether this MNC job and CS job in a firm are disticnt jobs?

if yes then go with CS job, pvt companies I think exploit a lot, too much work often hamper employee's health.

a lawyer in independent capacity is always a Kind (Queen in ur case)......trade mark is a good field...later u can add other sectors also forming part of commerical law litigation.

Uma devi ji,

if you have got an opportunity to join c.s.then

what is the type of yr joining?

if it is parmanent job then first  it is must to surrender your registration/precticing certificate to the bar council.as now you are an independent advocate

Uma Devi,

Although the query is a bit unclear whether you intend joining the CS or the MNC in terms of professional growth, then the pros and cons has to be decided by you, since the nature of work involved, the remuneration paid, benefits etc...... vary between the two types of entities, In a CS office you will concentrate more on Corporate laws rather than other laws for example you have Income Tax, sales Tax, Legal issues, Labour laws etc.... but working for a MNC you will have the opputunity to sharpen your skills in these laws also and get good exposure and in terms of pay also a MNC job will be a better paid job.

In any case, where ever you decide to join, you need to surrender the Advocate enrollment since there are restrictions on employment by advocates under BCI rules.

I intend to join MNC as legal manager.  I tried for it seriously but whereever I go they require previous experience adn knowledge of corporate legal compliance regarding fema, roc etc.  So I did approach a company secretory.  He offered me a job where I can get experience over these matters.  An d he appreciated my LL.M(Corporate and Securities laws) degree.  So I am preferring to join Company secretary firm where the firm is also having trademarks branch.

That s great Uma devi, even i am going through the same ............ where ever i approach they demand for work experience and i dont possess those since i have just worked couple of years in a accounts and finance based job ( they were bit time a waste because they didnt have any sense in doing it because we were told not to question but to just do as they say), so do u feel joining a company secretary is a wise idea? how are u paid?

I am a qualified Company Secretary and LLB as well. As per me it is indeed a good trend if the Practicing Company Secretaries are willing to take Lawyers as associate/ employee and Practicing Advocates are willing to take Company Secretaries as associate/ employee. It will be a win win situation for both the profession and every professional should encourage and promote such trend. Infact BCI and ICSI should think to enter into formal tie up in this regard by amending their respective stautes.

Others view solicited.
