We are a joint family of 9 people residing in this old cessed building since 1960 in Mumbai.Building was built in 1936.
Do we need landlord's permission for the following:
1. Change tiling in parts of the house where we reside .( Landlord says it amounts to creating two tenancies, we should change tiling of the entire house. How can we force my bro in law to change the tiles in his rooms?)
2. Change windows where framework of the shutters have rotted, the old iron grills have worn out.
20 years ago landlord had given oral consent to build a kitchen platform in the passage so my brother in law and his family could use it as a kitchen. (We have separate kitchens)Today his son is telling us to demolish that saying it is illegal. Can he do it.
The landlord has made alterations in his flat on the 2nd floor, demolised some walls. As we also have a similar flat on the ground floor we submitted a plan requesting similar changes be done he point blank refused. What is the solution? We are not touching any load bearing wall.
