Trademarks

I want to know whether Trademarks are same as Brand names..?Please explain with the real brand examples...Please help me out..

Yes Neelima,

You are quite right. Trademark is a BRAND NAME in addition to the way/design/symbol it is known to the public at large.Such as if you have seen the circular shaped logo on BMW cars or the triangular shaped mark within the circle of Mercedes cars....these are examples of Trademark.

Meaning thereby it is not only the brand name Mercedes which is the trademark but that triangle within the circle both are the trademark of Mercedes cars which if registered for the class and country specific can not be used by any other entity for the same class and country precisely with exceptions. Any infringement of the trademark shall invite action for damages and other things.
