After getting the law graduate degree one has to get enrolled in Bar Council of India as an advocate. A lawyer is qualified to practice law in all courts and tribunals.
Solicitor - Solicitor is a kind of advisor to clients on a variety of matters that involves law. Solicitors explain the cases of his clients to the advocates. Solicitors need never appear in court directly. Solicitors firms undertake cases, draft petitions and other legal documents. If you want to be solicitor, first join a firm of solicitors, be a member of their association and then start practise as a solicitor.

Apart from enrolling in the bar, you have to appear for solicitors exam (which are really tough). Before appearing for exams, you have to do 3 yrs articleship under a solicitor.
A solicitor has high esteem in the society. Big names such as AZB, Crawford & Bayley are all solcitor firms.
