advocate fees

(Querist) 27 December 2009 This query is : Resolved
is it necessary to enter into a written agreement with regards to fees etc before engaging an advocate before signing the vakalat as there is no "standard norm" for fees?

if not required, what is the safeguards for client,in case the advocate on a later stage asks for more payment/fees?
Kiran Kumar (Expert) 27 December 2009
dear mahendar both lawyers and clients are bound by the terms and conditions mentioned in the Power of Attorney.

there can be no standard safeguards...its more like matter of trust, at the most u can give payment through cheque and have reciepts.

Mr.Mahendra I am agree with Mr.Kiran, but I must suggest before entrosting a case to your adv you must ask his fees as whole or in part like what is his daily appearance fees, drafting fees, conducting examination in chief and cross examination fees, arguing fees etc.but it should be on mutual trust, there should not be any written contract.Silabhadra Sastry,Advocate,Bhubaneswar.
