My friend has started a bakery and wants to register it . Under what act he must register it and what is the registration procedure in detail. Pls also mention the list of proofs to be attached.

First of all if the turnover crosses Rs.500000 per financial year it business unit is to be registered under Sales Tax (VAT) and if the business is inter-state (VAT & CST). You can approach the concerned Sales Tax department for this purpose. It is voluntary if the turnover is below Rs.5 lakhs.
The other licences required are:
* Prevention of Food Adulteration License
* Factory License
* Weights and Measure License
* Food License
* Small Scale Industries License
* Packing License (for packaged products like breads and cookies.
If you consult the Industries Department (District Industries Centre) at District Headquarters they will guide you how to get these licences and wherefrom.
