One year back I had applied for my daughters birth certificate to the local BMC office in Mumbai. They have spelt the surname wrong. Instead of D'souza they have updated as D''souza. They refused to correct it even though it is their mistake. My and wife's surname is correctly spelt as D'souza. Please advise how to get it changed from the BMC office. Thanks Willie.

write a letter to the higher authorities mentioning the typographical mistake done by his department and attach the documents of you and your wife as supporting evidence.

D'souza can only be written so; there is an mistake on the face of the record. However, the mistake so trivial that it could be ignored.

Send letter and meet higher officials. If no effect file case for court orders.
