Can a litigant give his cell number in a petition ??

Querist : Anonymous (Querist) 27 November 2011 This query is : Resolved
As a litigant,can I do that?

I even wanna give my residence as well as mine office address in the petition and each every submission whatever needed to be made in the Court,is there something illegal in doing that?

Is there some harm/benefit in doing that?

What is the opinion of respected LCI members?

regarding the address for service is always permitted. regarding the cell no. I doubt. There will be + or - if the staffs/opposite party want to play on you. better leave your mobile no with your counsel only.

The cell no. I wanna give so that whoever interested in talking with me, may call me directly, though whereabouts of my advocate with his phone number will also be always there.

you can given your mobile number..

but rightly advised by ganesan sir, its may create any problem to you. so just avoid it..
Sailesh Kumar Shah (Expert) 27 November 2011
In my opinion, The court could take it otherwise since there is no provision in law to mentioned cell number.
Arun Kumar Bhagat (Expert) 27 November 2011
In pleadings rules and orders there is no reference for mentioning Phone numbers.

Your residence address is compulsory, and you submit it as "Memo of Address" for Regd communication, with your name, you can't avoid in civil matter.
Advocates are required to file their address, cell no. & E Mail Add.
You don't get any advantage, and there are hidden disadvantages. If you have any advantages in mind, let all of us know about it.
For Litigants, it is nether necessary, nor advisable to give cell no.

I agree with Ganeshan

I did not mean that I do not wanna give my residential address, what I meant that I wanna give my office address also, can I do that or not?

I did not mean to give the Cell number only/what I meant that any phone number--Can I give that or not?

Reason--I do not feel any harm, because if anyone opponent makes me a call--I do not mind--I may be aware of the developments from other sides also--real or even unreal--should there be any objection in all this legally--that was the query...

You can provide your office address also along-with your residential address. There is no legal problem therein. While providing office address, cell no. is not required so all experts have opined accordingly in response to your query.

YOU CAN GIVE YOUR ALL SOURCE OF CONTACT POINTS, NO PROBLEM I VISUALIZE IN THAT AT ALL.
prabhakar singh (Expert) 27 November 2011
EVEN IF YOU GIVE YOUR CELL NUMBER YOUR PETITION SHALL NOT GET INVALIDATED ON THIS GROUND ALONE;BUT DO NOT EXPECT COURTS REGISTRY IS GOING TO INFORM YOU ON YOUR CELL NUMBER.
Shonee Kapoor (Expert) 28 November 2011
There is no provision for cell numbers. It is an additional information which neither the court requires nor asks.
