I am a member of a Cooperative Society where the Managing Committee is close to completion of 5 years term can a SGM be called and we request the Managing Committee to extend the term by 2 more years as there is a development project on and we wish that the same committee could do better justice but many members are unaware whether we could do this or whether an election is mandatory.Pls advise and if possible pls inform the rule under which Thanks in advance

I agree with the opinion of Shri. Sethi.

WITHOUT being prejudiced, try the following via-duct:

1. Make appropriate petition before the ward Registrar of Coop., for extension of the term of the Managing Committee.

2. In exceptional cases and with little adjustment/juglery and at the discretion of the Registrar, the registrar will direct the committee to continue, "TILL" he appoints an Election Officer to conduct elections in the Society. This will legalise the committee till then and the committee can complete its "existing" project. However such committee will be treated as ad-hoc committee, and no major policy decisions can be undertaken.

Keep Smiling .... Hemant Agarwal
