is resignation get it accepted by employer? even if it is not specifically mentioned in appointment letter?

sir,
my friend resigned during probation period.
as per the appointment letter he can resign from company without serving notice period, provided he has to pay basic salary in lieu there of.
he tendered his resignation through mail and ask them to deduct the basic salary.
IN reply to this, the manager not accepted the resignation and asked him to complete the work and go.
my friend want to join another firm without using experience certificate or relieving certificate from this company.
can he do so? or acceptance is compulsory from prior employer.

If your friend is prepared to pay the salary in lieu notice, the employer can not can not ask him to continue the work.

No illegality. Acceptance is not necessary.
