My father died recently suddently due to illness at age 56. He left no will and hence no assigned executor. I live with my younger brother n stepmom (my mother died 6 years ago) .
The problem is how to find all his bank accounts, NSC policies that he had kept safe. Since there was no such urgent need when he was ill he had only mentioned roughly that he had 10-12 such policies n his life's savings for our future after his retirement from big MNC.
After looking through all papers i only found some lic policies n few bank accounts with little money in them but could not find any info on these NSC certificates or his main savings account which i m sure would be somewhere "safe" that only dad knew about.
I really need help finding these assets n to know if there are any other accounts he forgot to mention about. Is there any search facility via Rbi or something to find all accounts under his name? also about any other policies or such investemets?
What is the procedure to transfer the assets to the heirs? During re marriage it was cleared with my stepmom that she wont be a part of heirs in the future so do i need to sign the relinquishment agreement from her.
Thanks in advance for help

better visit the Post Office to know about the rules regarding NSCs.
As your father had already died, there must be some nomination of the said documents.
try to find out details by visiting personally, in case nothing is revealed then use Right To Information Act.

do a through search of his personal effects . he must have declared these NSC certifcates in his income tax returns . contact your father CA . he will know all the details . he must have made nomination in those certifcate . you will need NOC from other legal heirs for his various assets

@Ajay sethi: thats a good hint sir about findind the old CA who made these certificates. I m sure he wud b a great lead . Other legal heirs have no problem and look up to me to solve this issue. The biggest worry is finding the bank accounts since we know he had some old account where he kept all his savings but currently we cant find any record.
